Outpatient treatment often provide a progressive level of care to those completing an inpatient drug and alcohol program. Depending on the severity of addiction, intensive outpatient treatment without the completion of an inpatient program may be appropriate for some individuals.

The intensive outpatient program at SouthCoast recovery consists of participating in three daily groups and one individual counseling session per week. Psychotherapy is available as well as acupuncture, massage, yoga, drum circles and other holistic therapies. An individual program can be created to fit any schedule.

Alcoholics Anonymous

Although it has its critics, Alcoholics Anonymous has become the most successful alcohol recovery support group in existence. The 12-step principles it is founded upon have since become the basis for sister programs, including Cocaine Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous and Overeaters Anonymous.

Alcohol Rehab and Alcoholics Anonymous

Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) offers support groups in the form of 12-step meetings all over the world. AA is introduced in most drug and alcohol rehab programs as a means of additional support once an individual has completed inpatient or outpatient treatment. People who go through a formal means of severing their dependency on alcohol through an alcohol rehab center may find it difficult to remain sober on their own once they return home. This is where the group support of Alcoholics Anonymous can make the difference between an individual staying sober and returning to alcohol. Individuals learn to rely on the group instead of alcohol.

SouthCoast Recovery introduces clients to the principles of Alcoholics Anonymous and provides transportation to area 12-step meetings during inpatient treatment. While this is just a part of the overall comprehensive program that combines clinical therapy with the benefit of holistic processes, most clients need a sober support network following inpatient alcohol treatment. For this reason, SouthCoast Recovery finds Alcoholics Anonymous to be a beneficial addition to their alcohol rehab program.

Alcoholics Anonymous and Anonymity

Many people resist the idea of Alcoholics Anonymous because of the stigma involved – they don’t want others to know they have a problem with alcohol. In Alcoholics Anonymous, anonymity is the basis of the program and members are on a first-name only basis. While the size and individual nature of each group will vary, all meetings incorporate the same protocol. You’ll find everyone from young adults to professionals in the community attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. You may need to attend a few to find one that fits you.

Alcoholics Anonymous and SouthCoast Recovery

SouthCoast Recovery offers this advantage during alcohol rehab treatment. Clients are exposed to a variety of meetings in the Orange County area. Orange County has fast become a Mecca for recovery, offering over 1,000 12-step meetings a week. For this reason, it’s also become a draw for the top professionals in the realm of drugs and alcohol, making SouthCoast Recovery’s alcohol treatment program one of the best in the nation. For more information on how Alcoholics Anonymous and SouthCoast Recovery can help you, call us today. Professional help is available 24/7.

How Meditation helps in Alcohol Rehab

Those who struggle with alcohol abuse or addiction need to learn certain techniques to employ after alcohol rehab in order to remain sober during difficult times. Alcohol rehab is a positive step, but it is only the beginning of a journey. There will always be temptations that can trigger an individual to return to drinking months or even years into recovery. The benefit of receiving professional help for a drug or alcohol addiction is that clients at one of these facilities will learn certain techniques that will help him or her both in and out of alcohol rehab. One of these is meditation.

Alcohol Rehab and Meditation

Many may question how meditation helps in alcohol rehab. Meditation is a very powerful tool for those who are recovering from an alcohol addiction. It has been practiced for thousands of years by those seeking to connect with their inner consciousness and develop a deep, relaxed and calm state. In this serene state of mind, one is able to evaluate his or her life from an objective place. As Socrates said, “The unexamined life is not worth living.” The practice of meditation helps improve relaxation, concentration and clarity. Most individuals entering alcohol rehab feel anxious following initial detox and may be restless and irritable as withdrawal symptoms subside. Meditation helps interconnect and calm the mind, body and spirit. This is one of the reasons why alcohol rehab centers are beginning to use meditation as part of their treatment programs. SouthCoast Recovery has professional staff members trained in primordial sound meditation to lead clients in daily meditation during initial 30-day alcohol rehab treatment.

How Meditation helps during Alcohol Rehab

Withdrawal is an initial part of alcohol rehab that can be uncomfortable and painful. Meditation is a holistic way to help relieve withdrawal symptoms such as anxiety, instead of using drugs. By tapping into your inner consciousness, the mind, body and spirit connection is strengthened which results in serenity, clarity and improved concentration while releasing emotional pain. Clients are better able to examine their lives, come to terms with their past and make better, healthier decisions with the help of meditation. This is how meditation helps in alcohol rehab.

How Meditation helps after Alcohol Rehab

Meditation is not only useful during alcohol rehab but also after. Meditation helps tap into an inner peace and strength, calming the mind and spirit. Practiced daily, it incorporates a general sense of ease and well-being into an individual’s life. The practice of meditation serves well following alcohol rehab when an individual will be faced with the normal difficulties of life and can no longer reach for a drink to calm down or get through it. Social events such as happy hour or events that involve drinking can be stressful for a person just out of alcohol rehab. Meditation not only helps calm but provides a sense of clarity that removes the imminent threat of alcohol.

Meditation at SouthCoast Recovery’s Alcohol Rehab Center

SouthCoast Recovery is not just an alcohol rehab center, but a safe and supportive environment where clients are introduced to a new way of living. Meditation is practiced daily. In addition, clients are introduced to the calming effects of detoxification massage, acupuncture and herbal remedy. Combined with individual one-on-one clinical therapy, drug and alcohol counseling and group therapy, clients experience overall mind, body and spirit renewal. Innovative workshops, educational modules and over 100 years combined experience treating drug and alcohol addiction are just a few of the reasons why SouthCoast Recovery is the leading alcohol rehab center in Orange County, California. For more information on how meditation helps in alcohol rehab or any of our alcohol treatment programs, call us today.

What is an Alcoholic?

While there are countless theories and stereotypes of what an alcoholic is, the simple definition of an alcoholic is one who is physically and psychologically addicted to alcohol in spite of increasingly negative consequences.

An alcoholic can be any age, race or gender from any background, culture or socioeconomic status. An alcoholic could be your son or daughter, the cheerleader next door, the soccer mom down the street, your teacher, your boss, the man who bags your groceries or even a member of your clergy. An alcoholic can be high-functioning and maintain day-to-day responsibilities or in later stages move between hospitals, institutions and jails. Ultimately, this is where most alcoholics end up unless measures are taken to arrest their alcoholism.

Alcoholic Tendencies

Most alcoholics resist being labeled as such. It usually takes a lot of pain, suffering and negative consequences for an alcoholic to accept that he or she cannot drink alcohol like others. Alcoholics initially may drink socially like others, but over time there are noticeable differences. Some initial signs may include: Ensuring that alcohol is always accessible, the desire to drink for any reason or occasion, drinking alone, developing a higher tolerance than peers, drinking prior to events and continuing after everyone else is finished. Studies also indicate that teenagers who begin drinking prior to the age of 15 are 40% more likely to have drinking problems as adults.

As the disease progresses, alcohol begins to dominate the alcoholic’s life. They may subconsciously choose career paths, partners and social groups that encourage a drinking lifestyle. At some point in every alcoholic’s life, an invisible line is crossed where they lose the ability to control their drinking. It begins to interfere with education, work, relationships and opportunities. Hangovers become severe, resulting in withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia, anxiety or tremors that interfere with the ability to function. The morning drink may become a necessity to steady nerves. Attention to responsibilities and appearances falls off.

When challenged, the alcoholic will usually justify and defend their drinking. At this point, the alcoholic may begin to hide how much he or she is drinking or keep bottles hidden around the house or at work in order to ensure their supply doesn’t run out. Once an alcoholic takes a drink, he or she experiences a phenomenal craving for alcohol on a physical and psychological level. The only solution to this craving is to continue drinking until it is interrupted by an outside influence, such as the need to work, meet certain responsibilities or intervention by a loved one.

Alcohol Treatment if You’re An Alcoholic

The nature of alcoholism dictates that most people have difficulty arresting it without professional help. Alcoholism is a disease of mind, body and spirit. In order to arrest this disease, all three levels must be addressed. At SouthCoast Recovery, this is how our alcohol treatment program is designed. Every person who enters our doors receives a clinical evaluation to determine alcohol and drug history, family dynamics, health concerns and any underlying emotional issues or chemical imbalance that may be contributing to alcoholism. From this, we tailor a personalized alcohol treatment plan that combines the finest medical and clinical care with advanced holistic treatments for mind, body and spirit renewal.
Alcoholism is a progressive disease that is fatal if left untreated. Take control of your alcoholism and take back your life. We have 24 hour intake coordinators who can answer any questions you may have about alcoholism and our alcohol treatment program.

Learning Disabilities and Substance Abuse

The first question that needs to be answered is, Is there actually a relationship between learning disabilities and substance abuse? We can feel pretty confident in saying that there is. What we don’t know is the precise relationship. So now we need to tackle a more difficult set of problems in terms of dealing with the prevention of addiction and support for those struggling with addiction, that are also suffering from some type of learning disorder.

Learning Disabilities affect up to a reported 20 percent of American school age children–10.8 million of the 54 million such children. Because the characteristics of learning disabled children–reduced self-esteem, academic difficulty, loneliness, depression and desire for social acceptance–closely mirror the risk factors for substance abuse, we need to consider action on two fronts:

First, as a matter of substance abuse prevention, it is imperative to identify learning disabilities in children as early as possible and to deal with them promptly. By doing so, we will reduce the likelihood that such children will drink alcohol, smoke cigarettes or abuse drugs, by also reducing the likelihood that such children will suffer lower self-esteem, social difficulties and poor academic performance which can hike the risk of substance abuse.

Second, children with learning disabilities who fall prey to substance abuse and addiction must receive treatment tailored to deal with both their problems. At SouthCoast Recovery, our innovative program for those who struggle with learning disabilities offers some of the most advanced drug and alcohol program materials on the mind, body and spirit connection in the field of recovery. Our goal is to provide those with learning disabilities an advantage in our alcohol and drug treatment program through the use of ipods for auditory learning, as well as, many other traditional and non-traditional methods for helping those with learning disabilities fight substance abuse.
