SouthCoast Recovery Attends 1st Annual Gala Benefit Dinner Honoring Traditions, Held by the Juaneno Band of Mission Indians, Acjachemen Nation
SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CALIFORNIA — On June 19, 2009, members of SouthCoast Recovery were invited to participate in a gala benefit dinner honoring traditions that was present by the Juaneno Band of Mission Indians, Acjachemen Nation.
The evening was highlighted by a welcome from the Acjachemen Tribal Chairman Anthony Rivera Jr., an Acjachemen Prayer led by Adelia Sandoval, Cultural Director of the Acjachemen Nation, as well as, a performance by the Kupa Bird Singers.
The Juaneno Band of Mission Indians, Acjachemen Nation has occupied the areas now known as Orange County, California for thousands of years. The Tribe continues to govern itself as a Sovereign Nation under the leadership of elected Chairman Anthony Rivera Jr. and the Tribal Council.

Officially recognized by the State of California, the City of San Juan Capistrano, and Orange County, the Tribe has always been a integral presence in the Orange County community, while maintaining its strong cultural roots. The Tribe has been petitioning the federal government for recognition for more than two decades, and is committed to working closely with every member of their tribe to gain federal recognition over the next year.
