SouthCoast Recovery Welcomes New Employees

DANA POINT, CALIFORNIA — SouthCoast Recovery is excited to announce the addition of three new staff members. Two of the new members are on board as part of SouthCoast Recovery’s Native American and Alaskan Native program in association with AAIR .

Pete Macias is a CATC certified drug and alcohol counselor whose Native American history as a member of the Acjachemen from San Juan Capistrano made him a natural choice as a spiritual guide to SouthCoast clients in association with Access to American Indian Recovery. Pete believes that spiritual ceremonies practiced in association with old traditions have healing properties and guides our Native American clients to experience the age-old tradition of sweat lodges and other traditional ceremonies.

Jacque Tahuka-Nunez is a descendent of the Acjachemen culture, a southern California Indian tribe who built the Mission San Juan Capistrano. Jacque studied at USC and received numerous medals and awards for her accomplishments, including Most Outstanding Speaker Award for three years. Her superior speaking ability has led Jacque to develop a successful career in storytelling and teaching, leading her to be one of the most requested artists at the Orange County Performing Arts Center. In 2009, she received the Indian Educator of the Year award by the State of California. Jacque joins SouthCoast Recovery as an interpersonal liaison to the Native American heritage, introducing clients to traditions of basket-weaving and jewelry-making as well as cultural preservation through Intertribal Pow-wows.

Bernie joins an exemplary treatment team at SouthCoast Recovery to address the nutrition and fitness needs of clients. Many clients arrive at SouthCoast Recovery suffering from the effects of ill health and malnourishment due to prolonged drug and alcohol use. Bernie will meet with new clients to determine their nutrition and fitness needs, then develop a personalized plan as part of their overall treatment assessment to ensure they receive the proper nutrition, exercise and care for optimum health. Bernie originally joined the SouthCoast team as a leader in the drum circle, a significant therapeutic tool that originally emerged as a celebration of Native American heritage. He now joins Dr. Grant Collins, licensed acupuncturist and Celeste Seiler, licensed massage therapist, in providing physical care to our clients that helps stimulate internal healing from the inside out.
