How physical fitness helps during Drug Rehab

Drug rehab can be very difficult for individuals, especially when drugs have encompassed their life. Many severe drug addicts have isolated themselves and have very few friends or social skills as a result of continually using drugs. Thinking of a life beyond drugs seems impossible. Many think “What am I going to do if I’m not using?” One of the most beneficial ways to direct nervous energy while recovering from drug usage is through phsycal fitness. This is one of the reasons SouthCoast Recovery offers a complimentary pass to the local fitness center during initial drug rehab. Increasing one’s physical fitness level while in rehab helps reduce stress and improve physical health. Besides the usual benefits as to why one should work out, physical fitness helps those recovering from drug addiction become interested in new activities and releases endorphins, the body's natural pain reliever. Physical fitness in drug rehab also helps relax, redirect energy and improve concentration. Physical fitness can also be used as a valuable stepping stone outside of drug rehab as it can be used as a safe haven and a place to meet new people as many in recovery have to leave their old lives behind.

Physical fitness during Drug Rehab at SouthCoast Recovery

SouthCoast Recovery has a variety of specialized programs for clients to choose from. Most inpatient stays range from 30, 60 and 90 days to 6 months. Clients can always extend their time as needed and are always welcome back in times of crisis. During these stays, being indoors and sedentary during educational modules and workshops would make anyone feel the need for a little exercise. SouthCoast Recovery offers weekday transportation from the Wellness Center to the local fitness center five days a week where there is also access to pool and jacuzzi. Many patients need to relax while in rehab and spending time outside the drug rehab is refreshing. Time spent improving one's health, releasing endorphins through exercise, being in a high energy environment outside the drug rehab is rejuvenating and improves levels of concentration upon return to the facility.

Physical Fitness and Drug Rehab Aftercare

The transition from a safe and clean habitat back to one’s old surroundings can be overwhelming. It's during this transition where many recovering addicts or alcoholics relapse. SouthCoast Recovery helps clients develop a relapse trigger prevention program prior to release that includes the benefits of regular, daily exercise or some form of activity to help reduce stress and release nervous energy. Clients at SouthCoast Recovery are encouraged to develop healthy behaviors during their stay so they will become habit upon release. Counselors at SouthCoast Recovery help guide clients through potential pitfalls and show those recovering how easy it is to fall back into old habits if the appropriate steps are not taken. This may include going to live with one’s parents or a relative out of state so that negative influences from an old environment will not trigger one to use or drink.

Following initial drug rehab, SouthCoast Recovery also provides other treatment methods such as a Green level transitional program, an outreach program, and an outpatient program, providing the ability to seek treatment with your assigned drug counselor after drug rehab.

Meditation and Your Stay at SouthCoast

SouthCoast Recovery offers meditation during drug rehab. We offer 30, 60, 90 day and 6-month residential alcohol and drug treatment programs. Studies show that the longer an individual can commit to drug rehab, the better the odds for long-term sobriety. Learning how to meditate and apply the benefits derived, such as inner peace, calm and a higher level of consciousness, is a valuable tool in staying sober.

At SouthCoast Recovery's drug rehab center you will find that staff members are committed to helping you succeed. We will work with you on an individual basis that allows you to continue to reinforce your recovery as you progress through our drug rehab program. Meditation is practiced nearly every day in our initial 30-day drug rehab program in order to assist you in developing this beneficial practice. We also offer massage and acupuncture therapy in order to help you strengthen the mind, body and spirit connection on multiple levels.
