Drug Rehabilitation

Rehabilitation is defined as the act of restoring one to a condition of good health, work or a useful life through therapy or education. Making the decision to get drug rehabilitation is a sign of courage, not weakness. Drug rehabilitation centers offer the opportunity to return to a healthy state from the ravages of alcoholism and drug addiction in a safe, sober and structured environment staffed by professionals who specialize in the recovery field.

At SouthCoast Recovery, our drug rehabilitation program returns people to a healthy state of being in mind, body and spirit through education, various therapies and practical application. What Happens at Drug Rehabilitation?

Drug rehabilitation generally includes therapies that address physical health, mental health and emotional well-being. Introducing a means of social support is also vital to helping an individual build a sober support network and level of accountability following drug rehabilitation.

At SouthCoast Recovery, we use a variety of methods to support an individual’s healing on multiple levels of mind, body and spirit. This is a lot to accomplish in a 30-day inpatient drug rehabilitation program. Underlying issues, whether mental, emotional or physical, need to be addressed and returned to a state of balance in order for drug rehabilitation to be successful long-term.

Days begin early and are filled with educational modules, clinical therapy, counseling, holistic treatments, fitness sessions, meditation and 12-step meetings. Your personal drug or alcohol treatment program is designed for you based on a clinical evaluation that determines your level of physical dependency and the possible existence of dual diagnoses – the clinical term for two co-occurring disorders such as depression coupled with alcoholism.

For some people, drug rehabilitation may offer the first opportunity to sit down with a clinical therapist to address issues pertinent to you, such as childhood or adult trauma or abuse, self-destructive patterns of behavior or internal discord that could trigger alcohol or drug abuse. Depression has been described as anger turned inward. Quite often traumatic events are buried and the internal strife leads to numbing feelings or escapism through substance abuse. Clinical therapists and drug and alcohol counselors are trained to help you address and release these issues in a safe and supportive environment.

Holistic therapies that support physical release of emotional and physical toxins include acupuncture, detoxification massage and yoga. These therapies are applied on a weekly basis and help the body let go emotionally and physically, re-establish homeostasis in the body and help strengthen the interconnectedness of mind, body and spirit. Coupled with regular exercise at the local fitness center, nutrition and plenty of rest, the body begins to rebuild itself from what has likely been years of alcoholism and drug addiction. By the time you leave drug rehabilitation, you’ll be sleeping soundly, maybe for the first time in years.

SouthCoast Recovery also introduces clients to the 12-step model of support found at Alcoholics Anonymous, Cocaine Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous. These support groups are available worldwide and provide a social network of support in sobriety that reinforces what clients learn during drug rehabilitation. We introduce our clients to this proven model of recovery so when they leave our center, they know how to build a similar support system to the one they found during drug rehabilitation. While establishing mental, physical and emotional balance is important, support is imperative to maintaining long-term success in sobriety.

Drug Rehabilitation FAQs

What Creates Addiction and Why Does One Person Bbecome Addicted While Another Does Not?

It is not merely the addictive property of alcohol or drugs that creates addiction – if this were true than anyone who ever took a drink or a drug would become reliant upon them. The vast majority of people do not become addicted to alcohol or drugs to the point where it destroys their life. While there a variety of factors that contribute to addiction, the predominant research indicates that people who become addicted process alcohol and drugs differently. They are mentally and bodily different than others.

When is it Time to Consider a Drug Rehabilitation Facility?

The time to consider a drug rehabilitation facility is when life has become unmanageable to the point where significant relationships, responsibilities, school, work, finances and health are suffering. It is likely that loved ones will suggest the need for drug rehabilitation because the individual struggling with alcoholism or drug addiction can rarely see how bad it truly is. This is because the main symptom of addiction is denial.

Can a Drug Rehabilitation Center Cure You of Alcoholism or Drug Addiction?

There is no known cure for the disease of alcoholism or drug addiction but it can be arrested through abstinence. Addiction is a 3-part malady that affects mind, body and spirit. A good treatment program addresses all three by offering clinical therapists, certified drug & alcohol counselors, educational modules, skilled holistic practitioners, medical personnel and group support. Everything works synergistically in a safe environment to begin the individual healing process of mind, body and spirit.

How long does Drug Rehabilitation Take?

Alcoholism and drug addiction affects every person differently. Some people may only need a 30-day program to arrest their addiction while others may require up to 6 months. It depends on the person and the level of severity; that is, how long someone has been drinking or using drugs and the level of damage sustained. Someone who has been drinking or using for most of their life will have a more difficult time adjusting to sobriety than someone who has only recently started abusing alcohol and drugs. While professional staff members can make a recommendation based on the results of a clinical evaluation, ultimately it comes down to the individual.

What are Important Factors in Choosing a Drug Rehabilitation Center?

One of the most important factors to consider is that the drug rehabilitation center is state-licensed. This means the facility is held to a higher standard and level of care than a non-licensed facility. Another factor to consider is the staff to client ratio. A high staff to client ratio ensures more individualized care and attention. Staff members should be licensed and accredited in their particular area of expertise, whether they are therapists, counselors or holistic practitioners.

A drug rehabilitation center should also offer a comprehensive program that takes into account an individual’s needs and offers a variety of therapies, not just a standardized approach. There are as many conditions and variations that contribute to alcoholism and drug addiction as there are people seeking help. Specialized drug and alcohol treatment programs are available. Find one that fits you.

What is the Best Approach to Treating Alcoholism and Drug Addiction?

The majority of alcohol & drug rehab centers employ the 12-step approach, which has the highest measurable success rate in recovery. Other treatment methods place a greater emphasis on cognitive and behavioral therapy with group support while others solely focus on holistic methods of treatment.

At SouthCoast Recovery, we’ve found that a combination of clinical and holistic care within a 12-step model offers the most comprehensive approach to what is a complicated disease. Clinical therapy and counseling support mental and emotional health, holistic therapies of acupuncture and massage support physical health, and the 12-step model offers a social framework in sobriety that can be built upon during and following drug rehabilitation for long-term sobriety.

How Do You Tell Someone You Think They Have a Problem?

Alcoholism and drug addiction is a complicated disease that carries the symptom of denial which operates as a blindfold to those who are in the grips of it. It often takes severe consequences for an alcoholic or drug addict to realize they have a problem; therefore, the best approach is one of tough love. In the event that you have difficulty convincing a loved one to get help, SouthCoast Recovery offers professional intervention services.
