SouthCoast Recovery Opens Alcohol and Drug Detox Facility in Dana Point, Orange
County, California
DANA POINT, CALIFORNIA, December 04, 2007 -- Drug and alcohol detox doesn’t have to be painful. Previously, clients
admitted to SouthCoast Recovery were sent to an outside facility to undergo drug and alcohol detox.
Now clients are admitted to a SouthCoast residential home specifically for medically supervised drug and
alcohol detox procedures. "This addition is a great benefit to the continuity of treatment for our clients.
We can now capture a newly sober person's attention at the first moment they have the clarity to
process information" says Executive Director, Dennis Larkin.
The goal is to stabilize and minimize the physical pain of withdrawal symptoms during drug and alcohol
detox. Because a high relapse rate can be linked to an unsuccessful drug and alcohol detox process, this
specialized phase of drug and alcohol treatment cannot be overlooked. Initial withdrawal during drug and
alcohol detox can be physically distressing, painful and even dangerous.
SouthCoast Recovery provides 24-hour supervision with an on-staff physician, Dr. Brockett, M.D.,
managing each stage of drug and alcohol detox. Clients initially undergo an evaluation to determine the
level of treatment needed for drug and alcohol detox. If needed, medication is prescribed to ease
cravings and withdrawal symptoms associated with drug and alcohol detox. Nutritious meals are cooked
on a daily basis. Herbal remedies may also be combined with natural healing components to help the
body heal during drug and alcohol detox. Massage therapy may also be used to help release toxins
during the drug and alcohol detox phase.
Clients receive 24-hour care in a comfortable residential home during the drug and alcohol detox phase
of treatment. Blood pressure checks are performed regularly to ensure safe withdrawal during drug and
alcohol detox. When clients are physically stable, counseling is introduced along with educational
materials to the drug and alcohol detox facility.
Traditional detox methods at residential treatment centers include the use of mild or non-narcotic
prescription medication to ease the body through the painful withdrawal process that generally lasts
3 to 7 days. Restoration of mental clarity takes much longer. This substantially reduces the amount
of effective time for psychological treatment in a 30-day residential program. "With traditional detox,
it can take weeks for the mind to be clear enough to absorb the information we present," says
Dennis Larkin, founder and CEO of Synergy Treatment. "By that time, they're halfway through
the program."
With the addition of its state-licensed, medically supervised alcohol and drug detox program, SouthCoast
Recovery is now equipped to handle all stages of the recovery process. This personal attention to drug
and alcohol detox allows clients to comfortably progress to the next level of recovery.
