With Alcohol Detoxification like this, You Don't Have to Suffer!

Alcohol is one of the most dangerous forms of drugs to detox from and can be physically distressing, painful and even life-threatening. Immediate cessation of alcohol (going “cold turkey”) will result in withdrawal symptoms within hours and the time necessary for a complete alcohol detoxification can range from 3 to 14 days.

Alcohol detox results in a variety of physical and psychological symptoms. This is because alcohol operates on the Central Nervous System (CNS). Mild withdrawal symptoms include headache, nausea, vomiting, perspiration, restlessness, agitation, loss of appetite and insomnia; in other words, the typical hang-over. But for someone who has been drinking heavily for a prolonged period of time, the abrupt cessation of alcohol severely disrupts the CNS, and can result in anxiety, tremors, insomnia, hallucinations (auditory and visual), night terrors, convulsions and delirium tremens (DTs).

Most people are afraid to go through withdrawal and this keeps them engaged in drinking to ward off painful symptoms. Withdrawal can be painful, but it doesn’t have to be. There are typically three ways to detox from alcohol:

Cold Turkey

With this method, you merely stop drinking alcohol and suffer the consequences. Withdrawal symptoms range from mild to severe depending on how much and how long alcohol has been in the body. If you are considering alcohol rehab, it’s likely your symptoms will be more severe. It is estimated that 1 in 4 people are at risk for a withdrawal seizure if not medically treated during the detox phase. Cold turkey for alcohol is definitely not recommended.

Alcohol Detox

The most traditional and safe form of withdrawal from alcohol is an alcohol detox. Clients receive a mild form of prescription medication under medical supervision that reduces the risk of seizure. These medications generally include certain benzodiazepines or anticonvulsant medication that are prescribed in tapering amounts until the body is physically stabilized and the threat of seizure removed. An alcohol detox should be the most comfortable form of detox available as it eases the body through the initial physical distress of withdrawal with minimal discomfort. Southcoast Recovery offers state-licensed detox with 24 hour care in the comfort of a home environment.

NeuroTransmiter Restoration Therapy (NTR)

NeuroTransmiter Restoration Therapy (NTR) is a revolutionary detox process that utilizes an all-natural amino acid and mineral solution to bathe the brain’s receptor sites, stimulating the body’s cells to shift into repair mode. This cutting-edge treatment program substantially reduces withdrawal symptoms and cravings while restoring mental clarity in days instead of weeks or months. Southcoast Recovery is only one of three alcohol treatment centers in the United States to offer NTR , and the only treatment center on the West Coast.
