Written on: November 28th, 2008 By: admin

Research indicated that a program called contingency management or motivational incentives that is used in conjunction with psychosocial therapy is more effective in the meth treatment and Methamphetamines abuse than psychosocial therapy alone.

A contingency management (CM) program uses cause and effect, based on rules that help people change how the react to stimuli and help behavior changes. The CM is a reward based therapy. In other words if an individual is able to follow the rules they will be rewarded, the more rules followed the larger the reward. This is not a new concept, many other social aspects of life can follow a rewards type program. The CM is used as part of a effective or comprehensive treatment program that uses individual counseling, behavioral therapy, family education, self-help program, and after care programs. It is believed that treating all aspects of an addiction assists in the long term success of a drug rehab treatment program.

Meth or Methamphetamines abuse can cause serious health issues in a individual, irregular and elevate heart beat that can lead to strokes and other addiction side effects. It is important that the discovery of the success of contingency management can assist in prolonged and sustained recovery from methamphetamines.

Contingency management has already proven successful in the treatment of stimulate abuse drugs such as cocaine. This gives drug rehab treatment provides another tool in which to use in the treatment of Meth.
